Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has appointed Masumeh Ebtekar as vice-president for Women and Family Affairs, Laya Joneidi as vice-president for Legal Affairs, and Shahindokht Molaverdi as presidential assistant on Citizenship Rights. This takes up to three the number of positions assigned to women. During Rouhani’s first term, Molaverdi was vice-president for Women and Family Affairs, while Ebtekar was head of the Department of Environment. The appointment of the three women came the day after Rouhani had presented his new all-male government to the Iranian parliament. In addition to the vice-presidents, Rohani’s second government will include eighteen ministers, despite the fact that the list submitted for Parliamentary approval only includes seventeen candidates as the head of the Ministry for Science has yet to be named.
