The historic meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz was held in Moscow yesterday, October 5, 2017. Their discussions focused on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa. King Salman and Putin agreed on the need to fight terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters after the meeting. King Salman is the first ever Saudi monarch to visit Russia, and Putin underscored the importance of a peaceful resolution of conflicts in the region. Welcoming the Saudi king at the beginning of talks, Vladimir Putin said: "I am confident that your visit will serve as a good impetus for the development of our intergovernmental relations." With regards to the Syrian question, they agreed on the need to preserve Syria's territorial integrity.
