The completion of the construction work has been announced by the Romanian Energy Minister. The Ruse-Giurgiu gas pipeline will be 25 km long and will pass under the Danube

The interconnection of gas between Romania and Bulgaria should be operational by the end of the year. This was announced by the Secretary of State of the Romanian Energy Ministry, Corina Popescu, as reported by the local media. Bulgaria, which currently receives almost all its gas from Russia via the pipeline that crosses the Ukraine, has recently increased its efforts to diversify its sources of supply. The 25 km long Ruse-Giurgiu gas pipeline was initially intended to be operational by 2014, but its construction was postponed due to problems related to the laying of the last interconnection segment that passes under the Danube.
